i was blind, couldn't see what was here with me = = = = = = = It had been a long, slow evening. Ruby had waited around for the last few hotel guests to leave before clearing up after them, and helping to remove all the table cloths for washing before handing in her notebook and nametag for the night. She collected her bag and jacket from the front desk, avoiding the watchful eyes of the man behind it, whos name she still did not know. His eyes seemed to follow her whenever she passed, as did the eyes of many other humans. Ruby rarely came across a human that was immune to her beauty. It was terrifying, the eyes, watching her all the time. They always got over it eventually though. She could see a downside to living alone now with all these men seeming to follow her around everywhere.
It wasn't quite that they followed her, she just couldn't seem to get away from them. The man behind the desk opened his mouth as if to speak as Ruby pulled her cropped black jacket on over her plain work outfit - a white blouse and red waistcoat. She loved the work outfit, plain as it was. The code was simply black and white, but she loved to accessorise with the fitted waistcoats and thick black waist belts. She loved to feel pretty, but couldn't stand the eyes of the passers-by. She paused, taking her bag from the desk. The man closed his mouth and just watched with wide eyes as she nodded once and headed out the revolving door and into the night.
It was warm, very humid as Ruby stepped down the stairs and onto the street. With a rather random flick of her wrist she blew a cool breeze, closing her eyes happily as it passed over her, blowing her dark curls around her face and neck, brightening up her tired state as she turned a corner onto the main road. She passed her car, completely out of gas, and patted the bonnet as she passed, wondering whether to call a taxi and go home straight away, or find some sort of bar and hang out there for a bit. Now that she was out of the hotel, she no longer felt heavy and tired. The fresh breeze that followed her, whirling around her shoulders had brightened her mood. She passed many as she walked, skin turning orange every time she went under a street lamp, walking seemingly with a purpose, though she had none.
She glanced at the signs above the doorways as she passed each one, finding a bar and stopping outside, glancing quickly at the heavily clouded sky before she stepped inside, willing it to rain and wash away some of this humidity. A single drop of warm water landed on her arm, followed by another, then another. Large, heavy drops. Now that it had started, she would let the clouds go on raining until they blew away or ran out of droplets. The bar was quiet inside, dim lights. It seemed smoky, she wrinkled her nose at the cigarettes and headed over to the bar, seating herself on an empty stool and looking around her with a curious expression...

Thunder had just got home from a trip to the shops. Dropping his microwave dinners and new razor blades he ran his light green towel through his hair. Drying it from the sudden downpour he was unfortunate enough to be caught in. Taking of his soaked shirt he hung it up on the back of his chair. Yawning loudly he looked for a new shirt. As he picked up his clothes from the kitchen table he found a $10 bill. Smiling at this he grabbed a random shirt and headed to the bar.
Surprised, but unconcerned, that it was still raining he purposefully walked on. What else was money for apart from alcohol? He checked out most of the bars but none of them stood out. That was until he saw a lot of guys staring, mouths agape, at the main bar. Pushing his way through the crowd he saw an embarrassed, attractive woman sitting at the bar. Sure she was hot but why were so many men ogling her? To the annoyment of many women in the room.
Not one for shyness Thunder sat down next to her and ordered a drink. The barman had to shake his head before wrenching away his gaze from the woman next to Thunder. Purposefully ignoring this woman was step one to him. This would prove to her he wasn't just another pervert. Step two would take longer. Bumping his leg against her he apologized with a brief "sorry". The bait was out would she bite?

i was blind, couldn't see what was here with me = = = = = = = Downing the rest of her drink, Ruby put the glass back on the bar and began spinning it slowly between her fingers, eyes down, wondering where she would go when she left the bar. She'd basically been sleeping in a hotel since she moved here. It wasn't home, but it was somewhere to go. Or maybe she would just spend the night roaming the streets. She didn't get tired half as easily these days. She sighed, ignoring the prickling of her skin as she avoided the eyes of more men as she looked around to the door, wondering which way down the street she should go.
Her attention was stolen by the guy next to her. She looked at him and saw that he was avoiding her eye. He must know, too, that she wasn't a mere human girl. He gestured towards the men and she looked up, raising an eyebrow as they all turned quickly back to their drinks, or pretended to be watching something in the distance. She sighed softly, nodding. "All the time.
" Her voice came out choked. She hadn't spoken to anyone for a couple of hours. Her voice hadn't had much exercise today as the restaurant had been pretty empty at the hotel, and taking orders wasn't very social. She looked down, hair falling to shield her face which was good as she was hoping her choked voice hadn't made it seem like she was upset. She was pretty used to it, but that didn't make her feel any better about the eyes following her wherever she went. She wondered if it was the same for other fairies, or if there was something wrong with her. Her eyes flicked to the side of her where the stranger sat, looking down. She wondered why he didn't stare, and she wondered what made him different from the other humans. If he was supernatural, then he definitley wasn't something she'd seen before.[/s] [/blockquote] = = = = = = = ( Lyrics ) Love is Noise - The Verve ( Word Count ) 436 ( Tagged ) Thunder ( Other ) Did it again, sorry :/

The girl seemed to be reassured by him. Maybe she knew he wasn't just another starer, he didn't care. Downing his drink he took a glance over his shoulder as he heard a guy whisper "damn". The advantage of great hearing. Near all the guys were still casting looks at this girl when they thought she wasn't looking. Even a few girls were giving curious looks. Why wasn't Thunder so entranced. Sure he wanted to take her out for the night but he wasn't a drooling idiot. This mystery made her even more appealing. 2 Her voice was soft with a slight boredom in it. She had apparently suffered this obscene interest before. Taking a bit of a look at her himself he noticed that she was very attractive but something in him held back his urge to gawk at her. Sending his curiosities to the back of his mind he ordered another drink. While the barman walked away to fetch a new glass he turned to the girl and asked "I'm guessing you get a lot of that?" with a gesture to the men in the bar. Thunder was pointedly not making eye contact. Trying to show he wasn't a normal guy. She'd find out how abnormal later, if it all went well.

i was blind, couldn't see what was here with me = = = = = = = Ruby looked up as he spoke, wondering how on earth he could know what it's like to be different. Yeah, she knew he was, but she couldn't put her finger on what was that different about him, and she was pretty sure that the humans around had no idea about it. She looked back down at her glass, about to order another drink. She might as well stay now she had someone to talk to. She was just about to call over the barman, who wasn't that far away, and was staring at her, when the guy next to her yelled "Look! A nudist!" She jumped so vigorously at the loudly broken quiet, that her glass went flying off the other side of the bar. As the people around her got up, laughing, to run to the door she felt a hand on her arm and turned to see her new 'friend.'
Open mouthed, she nodded as he whispered to her, and slipped off her bar stool while the majority of customers were looking out the door and down the street, some shaking their heads and grinning when they saw that there was no nudist. Ruby slid out the door and the cold night air hit her like a wall of ice. She shuddered as her breath came out in litte clouds in front of her, and quickly warmed up the air around her with her hand clenched in a fist with the effort. The sky was cloudless now, rain stopped, which was probably why it was now so cold. She looked down the alley they were now stood in. To the left, a dead end, to the right, the main road. She smiled as she saw her escape route. "Thanks." she turned to face her rescuer.
Her bright blue eyes focused on him for the first time as her smile faded and she looked back to the road. "Um, I'm Ruby," she held out her hand to shake his as she looked up at him, her skin pale as the moon high above them in the eerie white light.

This girl was really something else. Thunder was guessing either a Sorceress or Fairy. She seemed at the end of her rope with all the staring. Thunder looked round scowling at all the guys who still gaped at her mindlessly. He would have loved this much female attention but understood how extra attention can be a burden. You can't make friends you can't talk to people you especially can't go out for a date. He needed to be comforting right now. "Not everyone is like that. I know what it's like to be different. It gets easier."
Thunder was remembering his old school days, his first inadvertent use of his power. They were doing a simple piece of writing on what animal they'd want to be. He had been writing furiously about how he'd love to be a dog and then discovered he had grown a tail. After running from the room he was told by the teacher someone stuck it on but from then on he knew what he was. He was mocked consistently all the way through school after that.
Taking in her features he realized how close she was to tears. He had to do something. So he carefully planned how to quietly slip out un-noticed... "Look a nudist!!!" Thunder yelled to the bar pointing to the street. As everyone looked to see what was happening he held her by the arm and whispered "lets get out of here, the back doors just to your right".

Ruby was quite jumpy Thunder discovered. His plan of escape had worked perfectly, and gave everyone a laugh which was basically his job in social situations. Shaking his new friends hand he said "I'm Thunder, sorry if i spooked you with the nudist thing. I'm not one for thinking on my feet, or... thinking in general". Laughing a little at how true this was he took in her features. She was pale yet it gave her a certain glow. It was so cold she had pimples on her bare arms and even this looked cute on her. If Thunder found her flaws cute he knew he wanted something to happen. But how can he show her he wasn't an ordinary guy.
Well there was always one way. "I prefer my hair longer." He casually remarked. "Does this make it look better?" he asked. He then stopped, closed his eyes and focused. After a second or so he felt his hair grow longer. Admiring his new look in a piece of broken glass he didn't wait for her response. "It's no problem Ruby I'm here to help. Now do you have any other questions for me?" he asked mockingly. Any other questions was a simple phrase but he braced himself for a wall of questions.

i was blind, couldn't see what was here with me = = = = = = = Astonished, confused, Ruby watched as his hair grew longer in the darkness. She blinked, eyes re-focusing on it in the darkness, though she could see clear as day what had just happened. Her hand reached up, pale as parchment and touched the newly grown hair, her mouth slightly open as she withdrew her hand.
"How did you do that?" she asked as her only question. Her head cocked to one side and she raised an eyebrow, surprise fading. "Is that your power? Or did you trick me?" she knew he wouldn't be surprised by her knowing he had powers, it was obvious he was different. She wondered if her difference was as obvious to him as his had been to her. She swallowed and looked up at him, waiting patiently for him to show her that he really was different, and hadn't just been a trick of the eye. But year, if he was human, she'd just made a right fool of herself. She licked her bottom lip, gazing up at him thoughtfully. " You're not human?" she asked. The answer seemed so obvious to her, but maybe her senses were just screwed up today.

Thunder was pleased by her shocked reaction. As her hand swept through his new hair he felt a pleasant tingle, he wanted some fun with her. "Yep I'm not human" he told her. "I'm a shapeshifter, not a good one though" he added with a little chuckle. Thunder was being honest with her. That meant he could tell her a few stories later if she wanted to hear them. She also seemed to confirm his theory that she was a fairy. He didn't know that much about faeries, mostly about their charms and how they have individual powers.
The alley was cold and Thunder had started to shiver. He didn't like the cold. Pulling his top around tighter around him he rubbed his hands together to try and generate some warmth "Your not human either though are you, I'm guessing fairy?" Thunder questioned her. Rarely did he know more about the other races then anyone else did and he was rather enjoying the feeling of power. He knew only the basics but was trying to let on that he knew more. "you doing anything tonight?" he asked her. It seemed quite obvious she wasn't or she wouldn't have been in th bar but it was a way of giving him a chance to talk to her more.
