no-one will notice, they're looking elsewhere = = = = = = = Bored with her silence, Ruby picked up the wind. She twisted it and made it whistle round the tops of the trees, filling the clearing with the pleasant sound of rustling leaves. Her sharp eyes saw a leaf become detatched from its branch so high up, and she cut the wind abruptly, turning it back to the steady breeze, back and forwards, her chest rising, up and down. The silence fell again, but was soon interrupted once more. A rustle of something large in the tops of the trees. She couldn't imagine it would be anything but a bird, or maybe a squirrel. She was at peace until the sound of breaking branches, something falling, and then, a thud.
Ruby sat bolt upright. Eyes scanning the trees, searching the undergrowth ahead of her. Nothing. A tiny movement caught her eye and she looked to her right, reaching out to catch the leaf that had finally reached the ground after its long journey down, carried by her breeze. She looked at it with a puzzled expression for a moment, looking back towards the 'thud' and immediately locking eyes with a man. He couldn't be human. It was clearly him that fell. He could only be; 'vampire'. The leaves stopped their rustling and the air was still. A the forest seemed darker as the evening sun darkened, her powers stopping that extra glow. Her ivory skin turned a shade paler and goosebumps formed on her arms. She didn't know much about fairies, but vampires, she knew a lot. What she had heard hadn't been good. Her species feared them. She didn't know why, but she wasn't about to object.
Unsteadily, she rose to her feet. Small blades of grass and dust flottered to the ground from her simple white summer dress. Her eyes never left the vampire as one bare foot stepped backwards, cushioned by the soft moss, ready to run if she had to. She had no idea why she had to be scared, but couldn't help herself. The forest was deadly still, even the highest branches did not twitch, for there was no air moving up there to make them. She swallowed, shoulders hunched, fingers clasping together uneasily...

Greatly frozen by the Antarctic forest breeze, the cold wrapped around him like an adder. Ironic, how a vampire's body will never expire heat but it will gladly accept the cold. Slightly conscious that there may be someone around to disrupt his momentary peace, he pulled backward a branch from a nearby tree and leaped onto it. He begun to climb until he reached the forest's breezy attic. The Hollow had made a good first impression on him, he'd actually never come here before. Each concievable item he saw floating of the sky he could smell, he hadn't been able to be immune from the smell atoms of blood since his bar mitzvah. Almost as if confirming he could smell the ripe flesh of something below him, he looked down and saw the vague figure of a sweet girl, ripples of excitement coursed through his veins as they naturally did, but Lestat made no movement.
His mind conjured up the vision of a swarm of bees swooping down and disturbing her harmony, at least for a brief moment she could feel the misery he could feel. The leaves shuffled against the wind like radio static and Lestat clung harder to his arc of hope as he stared at the woman below. Something as natural as the smell of blood excited him more than usual with this one, he tries to move to the tree opposite the one he was sitting in, but his foot slid across the bark and he fell from his branch harshly, grasping a branch below the height he was at before to keep his balance. Twigs had made a crown in his hair and he sounded positively exaspherated. So with a fiery flip, he fell like a satellite with no protest this time, until his face was reflected in a filthy puddle that his face had only been inches from hitting.
His atomic eyes surveyed the area, he seemed to have dropped backward rather than forward which was where the girl was. Nevertheless she'd surely wonder what the riot was, so he groomed himself and ventured to find the girl, only when she caught his eye from a closer view, he realized why sparks fired inside his body when he saw her, she was a fairy. It took Lestat a second to realize why she was afraid, he knew he wasn't at his most handsome at the moment but fear was what he recieved fondly from humans, she must know he couldn't hurt her. The forest sounded as busy as a workshop with all the rustling leaves and screams of the wind, if she had said something he couldn't possibly listen in this noise, so he stood there in silence for several seconds wondering what it would be like to kiss such a radiant creature.
Sweet talking wouldn't work, he was no fool, and he knew it was nature talking. Why else would he lust over a woman he had only just met? Nevertheless, the feeling was there and it was strong, powerful. So different, the women he fixated himself with were deadly, the women he had no chance with yet they wrapped him around their fingers tight as spandex. Ok, so it wasn't that different here. Lestat's eyebrow twitched slightly, was she scared because he was a killer? Did fairies really fear his kind? He took a slow step toward her, the woods were beginning to grow darker.
Back when he lived in another state he couldn't remember it getting so dark so early, not that he was complaining, though he had probably gained weight from his recent increase in blood consumption. The thought of plunging his sharp teeth into the fragile neck of this young fairy hadn't crossed his mind...well, until just then. Lestat was smiling, he was happy, looking at her was like a drug, waking up from a deep sleep, all the pleasant things in life your thankful for. Beautiful fairy, beautiful, beautiful fairy. It took all his will not to reach out and touch it. He laid his back against the bark of the nearest tree and said; "I won't hurt you, lucky for you I can't hurt you" he added, trying to hide the lust in his eyes. If she was suspicious of him, why didn't she just run away so this damn spell she had over him would cease?

give up repeating the facts that can be arranged = = = = = = = She stood her ground now, hands still clenched into uneasy fists, the forest around her still silent as if dead. The only sound heard by her sensitive ears was the very quiet rustle of the grass as the vampire stepped forwards into her clearing. Her head tilted to the side in a cirious gaze, dark hair falling down past over her shoulders, contrasting with the pure white of her dress, that made even her ivory skin look dark against it. The silence made her uneasy, so, with an upwards glance, she let the trees rustle quietly once more, the cool breeze hugging her bare shoulders, lifting away the still, hot humidity.
Her face twitched in a kind of pained expression that lasted for only a fraction of a second as the stranger vampire leaned back against a tree, supposedly relaxed. Why hadn't he just attacked her? Why wasn't she lying dead on the ground, white dress covered in deep red blood, calling for help that would never come? Ah, the vivid imagination she had. 'I won't hurt you, lucky for you I can't hurt you'. Ruby blinked, head turning a fraction to the right so that she looked with a slightly sideways gaze, blue eyes wide as she considered him. "Why not?" She swallowed, regretting saying anything. She straightened up from her slightly forwards leaning stance, wanting not to lean towards him. She couldn't trust him, how could she trust a vampire? All those stories...
If her mother had told her anything about being a fairy, it was that she was to avoid vampires. But why? Maybe she was about to find out. The fairy girl did not change the direction of her stare, she barely blinked as she looked at the stranger in her clearing, the beauty of the day and the hours of lone relaxation now forgotten. = = = = = = = ( Lyrics ) Electable (Give It Up) - Jimmy Eat World ( Word Count ) 418 ( Tagged ) Open =D ( Other ) Nothing

He started at the woman for a long moment, she almost reminded him of the first fairy he ever met, Leigh Lemuel Bertram. She was mesmerizing, and like this woman slightly...rigid...
"I'm a dead duck if I don't get home soon" Leigh seemed to shudder at the thought, "My head would be rolling be the wink of an eye" she smiled at the mortal Lestat who smiled back. Poor thing was losing her nerve as they watched the brisling swim across the lake where the alyssums were growing spontaneously. Lestat put his hand over hers, "Nobody will hurt you, not while I'm around" he said softly, and Leigh curled comfortably onto his lap, her face buried in his shoulder. "I love you" he whispered into her ear, "your the only one I want with me" they kissed passionately, Lestat held her tight as their eyes locked on each other.
Lestat held back a muffled sound from his throat, "Let's just say it's not my nature" he cleared his throat, "what are you doing out here? Attending an evening service?" he joked, but his smile faded as a swarm of maroon butterflies fluttered above his head. He refused to see the magic inside the forest, it meant nothing to him anymore. "Shouldn't you be at home, watching cable TV and snuggling your pillow?" his deep voice churned as he approached her chewing on his bottom lip, surveying her. If she was human she'd be his breakfast by now, yet he couldn't touch her despite his stomach going to town on itself with a deep brick-heavy feeling.

give up repeating the facts that can be arranged = = = = = = = Her ocean blue eyes never left his as they stared across the clearing at each other. Her chest heaved in a rythmic way, the deep breaths giving her something to concentrate on as she calmed herself. If he wanted to kill her, he would have done it by now. But... Why didn't he? She watched as his eyes glazed over momentarily and she knew he was having a flashback. She never missed a beat in her new fairy body and she blinked as he replied. She rarely had 'flashbacks.' There wasn't much of her past worth concentrating on. For the majority of it, she hadn't even known that she was different to the regular humans.
Though physically, she hadn't changed at all from human to fairy, for she had always been a fairy, since she had known in her mind that she was different, from the second she realised that she had a power, everything had seemed sharper, easier, better. "What are you doing out here? Attending an evening service?' She opened her mouth as though to reply, frowning slightly as she held herself back because this was her time, why should she tell a stranger? He spoke some more and she felt annoyance burning inside her. "Don't make assumptions about me." she replied to his snide question. "I have better things worth doing." Things that this vampire had disturbed. With a wave of stubbornness, she sat down on the mossy ground where she had been laid before, legs and arms crossed tightly, pale skin standing out in the growing darkness. She had no idea how long had passed since he'd interrupted her weather control, but it was now that dim, greyish darkness.
Fireflies buzzed through the undergrowth, and the stubborn look left her face as she was momentarily distracted. Open mouthed, she gazed at them with wide eyes, until the glowing dot of light disappeared and she turned her attention back to the vampire. He must be patient, not losing interest in something that was not worth eating. Or maybe he was the sort to play with his food? She looked at him with head cocked slightly to one side, lips slightly pursed, arms and legs still crossed. She was totally vulnerable where she sat, and now butterflies started fluttering in her stomach. Great, if he was about to kill her, then she'd just made it easier. She blinked. Slow and deliberate. "What do you want, vampire?" The words came out totally innocent, not a tone in her voice that suggested anything hostile, but her eyes narrowed as she gazed, sideways at him.
She breathed out heavily and a gust of wind blew up from in the trees behind her, making her long brown hair fly over her shoulder and fall around her face. The breeze carried on across the clearing and Ruby's finger twitched, hidden in the crook of her folded arms. The invisible wind was made visible by what it moved, and right now, it was whirling gently around this stranger, ruffling his shirt and his hair before flying off into the trees behind him. The corner of her mouth twitched and she fought the smile. He would have no idea of her power...

"I want to go back to my residence with a smile on my face and a brandy in my hand" he snapped back, pushing away the drafts of wind that seemed to focus on him. "But I can't, because I feel like your a princess and I'm the toad and I hate that feeling!" he moaned, but unable to take his eyes away. He rested his elbow against the bark of the tree behind him and ruffled his hair, holding his hand over his stressed forehead. Inadvertently using his bull strength he instead drove his elbow straight through the tree and caused the tree to fall to the ground producing a giant crashing noise ringing through the forest. "Shit!" he groaned inwardly, thinking he had disturbed a hornet's nest or something.
"There are enough bastards cutting down trees for industrial parks without me adding to the number" he sighed and slid his hands underneath the corpse of the tree straining every vampiric muscle he had to pull it upright once more, of which he grinned from ear to ear at when his mission was completed. "I don't have the magic to re-attach it, but at least the Hollow looks a little more beautiful" he said as a side comment to Ruby. He gave her a long, searching look and then said; "Whats your name?" genuinely curious and trying to implement some civil conversation into this snide war that was beginning to become a problem for him. Meeting a fairy wasn't a regular occurence, the feeling was new to him but as his overdosage increased he found an object of affection to be even more dangerous.
Her most attractive feature was the concept of which she was standing up for herself, she did not tremble at the sight of him. Obviously this was before she knew the effect fairies had on vampires, but was enjoying this too much to say it out loud. He wondered if the odds and ends of her conjoined into one group, or she was alone in this world. He could relate, he had been that way since yesteryear. He never had any voice to listen to besides his own, and perhaps this was why it was so refreshing to hear another that wasn't screaming for her life.

give up repeating the facts that can be arranged = = = = = = = Ruby flinched, taking a step backwards, pale arm pressed against the rough bark of a tree behind her as the large tree crashed to the ground, taking out much of the patches of wildflowers and making snoozing birds fly from their nests, screeching angrily. She frowned again as she watched as the stranger lifted the tree with his superhuman strength. He seemed like an angry person, not just emotional anger, but anger that ran deep inside. She wanted to comfort him, but maybe he would see her as something to take out his anger on. She shook herself free of those thoughts, as she had just told him off for making assumptions about her, now she was doing the same.
She just stayed quiet as he settled the tree into its original place, her hands clinging to the bark of the tree behind her and she stared back, wide eyed as he watched her. 'What's your name?' he asked her, and it took a moment for her to realise that this was not a rhetorical question and answer- "Ruby. " she spoke the simple answer to the question she had been asked so many times. Still very confused about why she wasn't dead, she separated her thoughts. She had an eternity to figure this guy out, to figure Vampires out, so why not start now? She watched him curiously, stepping away from her protective tree. She walked slowly, cautiously towards him and stopped two feet away, extending her arm to shake his hand, her eyes never leaving his in her wide eyed stare, mouth slightly open as she took in that vital oxygen that would be needed for a quick getaway, not that she intentionally thought of running. Anyway, she had the elements on her side. Well, the weather at least. That was all the protection she needed. He nodded at the sound of her name, and held an uncontrollable smile when she offered her hand, he took it without a moments pause. "Lestat" he told her his name, that was the first step he suppossed. As he withdrew his hand he withdrew his judgement, she was incredibly beautiful. He recalled every important detail, like the way she confidently approached him. It genuinely seemed like an act of bravery, was she not aware of this? Before he could speak again his cellphone sound spread into occasional beeping, Lestat pulled it from his pocket and saw a text from one of his employees. "Trouble at the bar, I don't suppose you've ever been to Club Dead?" he sincerely hoped she hadn't, a part of him didn't want her to see the bar he owned.
"I don't quite understand why your here alone, do you have family, friends around here?" he asked her as they walked, and while they cut through the paths Lestat did more listening than speaking, in fact he didn't speak again for a while after Ruby finished, taking it all in. He was a great listener when he wanted to be, as a human helping others was his inspiration, Lestat began to wonder if Ruby would've liked the man he used to be. Never had connecting to someone been a problem before, but that was before he lost Leigh. Later, he spoke again "I spend most of my time by myself or in the bar, i lost my charming social skills a while ago" he reminisced with a mini-epiphany put in place as he realized what he had been missing.
As they walked out of the Hollow he became immersed in their conversation until he unplanned and spontaneously touched her hand for a very brief moment. Lestat looked up to see the beginnings of hail cease, and although curious to the weather's sudden change he concentrated on the woman in front of him. She was amazingly unique, but Lestat told himself it was the spell talking and once he walked away he would get his eyes back. "Your welcome to come with me but if you have somewhere you'd rather be.." he would text Jerry and tell him to put slower, more mellow music on. Bellowing background noise is just the sort of thing that would scare someone as entuned with nature as a woodland creature.
He found his car and started it up while she made her decision, thinking that if she agreed he would at least get to dine with her. She didn't need to know that any food in his mouth turned to ash.

moments of happiness elude maybe I just misunderstood
= = = = = = = She nodded politely as he said his name and took her hand. Lestat. Unusual name. She hadn't heard that one before. Definitley a vamp. She gave a start as the silence was broken by the sound of a phone. The metallicy sound screeched in her sensitive fairy ears but she did not flinch a second time. Club Dead? She'd heard of it, but clubbing wasn't her thing. Actually, what was her thing? Well, she hadn't lived here long, there was plenty of time to take up a hobby.
She followed him through the dark woods, stepping easily over the tangles of roots and brambles, seeing as clearly as if it was the bright of day. He questioned her on her friends, her family, and she just shook her head. "I live alone. I havn't been here long. I moved out as soon as..." she trailed off. 'As soon as I found out I was a fairy' "I don't know anybody. " She shrugged as she walked, eyes on the ground, flicking occasionally, warily ahead of her at the vampire she was following. Wait a second, why was she following him? She couldn't remember the transition between shaking his hand and walking out of the clearing. It must have been, instinct? But surely her instinct would have been to get away from him? Her own thoughts drifted away and she broke the silence, realising how stupid she had sounded just ending her sentence half way through. " I'm a fairy. I mean -" she couldn't tell, did he know that already? " I didn't feel... Right, where there was just... only humans." True, she had come in search of others of her kind, and only recently realised the number of different supernatural creatures around. Her bare feet stepped onto grass and the shadows disappeared. The moon wasn't very high in the sky, but it was high enough to cast a silvery glow, and now her skin looked almost as pure white as her dress. Their skin touched, and she automatically drew her hand away, glancing upwards and hoping that he hadn't noticed the clouds appearing suddenly above. She looked back at him as he spoke, inviting her to come along... In his car? She saw it now and realised that he had been heading home. She hadn't really thought about where he was going when she followed him through the wood, heck, she didn't even know why she followed him. She watched him get in the car and frowned down at the glittering windows, looking once back up at the sky before opening the passenger door and sliding inside. His voice grew slow and careful, "any vampire could tell a fairy upon sight" he told her as she got in the car, closing out the cold. "Far be it to break the love/hate relationship here but do you mean to say you don't know about vampires and fairies?" he asked inquisitively. Normally he enjoyed scaring people, but the fear in her face wasn't even funny when she first saw him, he should've known she had no idea. New to the fairy thing, after all she did say she didn't know anybody, he suppossed. He was beginning to like whatever spell fairies naturally had over vampires, it was allowing him to be who he wanted to be instead of forcing himself to be a rageful creature of the night. Instead of being the unpredictable moody vampire he'd become, around this fairy he was sweet and harmless though not by choice.
"So," attempting to make conversation, "do you have powers that tap into nature?" he inquired, unable to stop his lack of self control of silence. He played well with vampires, he had no idea how to play well with a fairy. "Is there anywhere I can casually drop you off after I've sorted something out at work?" he asked again so he knew where he was parking. Did fairies sleep in the forest or did they have homes? He hoped she did have somewhere to go, he might not dare to bring her to his place. If she didn't know anybody at least she didn't have family that expected her home by a certain time, he didn't work well with deadlines. When he parked outside Club Dead he could hear more upbeat music playing than they usually played and he was suprised to find it suited the club well. He opened the door to Club Dead and let Ruby inside, walking immediately to the food counter. "I'll get you something to eat" he finalized, already pulling out a bowl and placing a scoop of ice cream inside. One scoop was all they needed because one scoop had over a dozen flavours inside, he had established quite a good menu despite the fact it was run by vampires.
"Strawberries?" he asked, fruit being one of the few things vampires could taste and the ice-cream being more of a throat-soother than anything else they had such things in large supply. He stared at her while she answered and gave her the bowl as according to her request. He had to admit the club itself looked trashy, but vampires didn't care for taste until it was refridgerated blood. Lestat took out some of this, and unknowingly drank more than usual, trying to assert his masculinity by taking small doses of blood every few minutes. Then a staff member approached him, it turned out to be a simple matter of there was no one on cleaning duty. He resorted to calling someone in for some last minute chores and that was the problem sorted. Lestat avoided the conflict in everyday situations, just resorted to simple answers. He always had too much to do when he came to work, and the day where he had just popped in became the slowest night this week.
When his member of staff for cleaning duty arrived Lestat gave a motivating speech that consequently ended with him paying for overtime and the employee went to work. He was only dominating and demanding on the rare occasion that a worker did not do as he said, and just before he turned back to Ruby the same worker approached him again claiming to struggle with the trash compactor. "I'll be right back" he said to Ruby and left to help his employee forgetting about the consequences of bringing a fairy to a vampire bar. When he returned with his stability intact he found vampires had surrounded Ruby. Panicking he ran to where Ruby was sitting and held her like a father would, shoving away the vampires with repeating the phrase "she's with me". The crowd eventually subsided, and Lestat let go of her apologetically. "I'm so stupid I'm sorry!" quiet had broke out over the bar after this incident and customers began to leave, but he didn't care. After all, a health inspector reported an infestation of bugs behind the bar and customers still came in the thousands over that year.
The city was beginning to dim anyway. He took a seat next to Ruby, not greatly excited to be telling her this. "Fairies... have a special power over vampires.. a charm, a hex, i don't know, but it causes vampires to become... infatuated with them" he told her hesitantly, trying to communicate as clearly as he could. This would be something new for his journal tonight, his difficulties to be loyal to his kind by telling a fairy why exactly vampires can't hunt them unless they were mentally ill or powerless. Something to do with the air and the earth, he wasn't the most clued up on fairies. All he knew was that they made vampires feel faithful, as if they could never look at another woman the same way. Lestat could hear his phone vibrating, but he was scared of leaving the room in case someone stole her from him. It was a new possessive nature that vampires didn't naturally have.
But then his attention was snared by the same helpless employee as Lestat pulled out his phone, so he left the phone on voicemail and placed it at the bar in front of Ruby and left again. His phone was passworded so he knew nobody could get into it if it was stolen. When he came back he looked like he had done more physical labour that his worker had and being newly obsessed with appearing attractive, he had taken extra time to suit himself up again. He distantly ruffled his hair and then approached Ruby again, changing his face from the one that was just picking fights with his employee. His taste on music had changed, so he switched off the stereo for a deeper talk. He didn't know quite how Ruby was taking this, "I hope you realize I am betraying my race by telling you about this, it's an unwritten vampire law that a fairy that does not know her power is there for the taking" he admitted hastily.

moments of happiness elude maybe I just misunderstood
= = = = = = = She was cold in the car. Maybe vampires didn't feel cold, but it made goosebumps stand up on her skin. She didn't really notice, she was watching the road ahead, wide eyed, not daring to look at Lestat. She shook her head when he asked. "I know barely anything. My Mom was a fairy too... We didn't get on well..." she trailed off, feeling that she needn't say any more. She pretended to watch the trees flying past in the darkness, her mind elsewhere. She had no idea where they were going, knew nothing except that they were headed in the general direction of the town. She turned to look at him as he asked about her powers. He must know a lot more about fairies than she did vampires, how else would he have any idea she had powers? She watched his eyes but they were fixed on the road.
" I can control the weather, I think. Sometimes it becomes more of an... elemental thing. " She shrugged and looked ahead, brow furrowed and eyes unfocused. Elemental was one explanation. She knew she could control all aspects of the weather, and that included temperature. She could make it so hot that any dry bush nearby would set alight, and so cold that any liquid that was too close melted. Having found this out by accident, though, she had no idea how far this could go, or even whether the fire incident was a one off. She had been particularly angry... Her eyes switched slowly back to focus as she realised he was talking to her again, noticing the words 'drop you off.' She swallowed. She had been sleeping in hostels recently, having no real accomidation at this moment in time. " Urm, I'm sure I can find my own way home from the club," she lied. She still wasn't sure about how safe she felt here. She felt the car slow down and looked out the window, feeling the heavy vibrations of loud music. She felt a twist of unease in her stomach as she looked at a few people milling around outside. Vampires. She stuck close behind Lestat as she followed him inside, keeping one eye on the people around her, suddenly feeling very small and very weak in the knees. Her attention still on the strangers in the club, she flinched when Lestat spoke, her eyes flicking back to him, when she swallowed her fear and smiled, nodding as she realised that he was only asking if she wanted strawberries on her ice cream... She hung around in a corner while Lestat went off to do is business, sitting in a chair, churning up her ice cream with the spoon, having only eaten the strawberries. She was too busy watching, wide eyed and terrified, the vampires that were sidling closer to her table, probably thinking she didn't notice their eyes watching her. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest and was sure they could hear it too as she shrank back into her chair, eyes fixed on a vampire who hadn't even bothered to make his staring subtle, he was glaring at her in such a strange way. This was it. Lestat had brought her here as dessert, surely. She pushed away her ice cream, and was about to get up to leave, not caring about Lestat's whereabouts, or where she was going to go. Just as she stood up, he was at her side and she flinched away from his touch, but felt instantly safer as he told the others to back off. She calmed down a little and listened to him talk, hanging on his every word, fascinated. " But, why?" was all she could seem to say. She had no idea what was going on. So they weren't after her blood? They just had some sort of... lust, for her? She felt a little disgusted, but intrigued... " So, you're infatuated with me, then?" she said, flashing a rare grin that was quickly wiped away as she remembered she was supposed to object to this. Lestat looked around to check no other vampire heard this; he was suddenly thinking it may have been less embarassing to have come to Club Dead alone. Anything to get away from having to make his admission. It felt like the four walls were closing in on him. Lestat scanned the vampires around him, no one was focusing on him rather Ruby, didn't she get it or was she just wanting to make him say it? They weren't exactly best friends so what good would come out of this?
Lestat took in all of his surroundings, almost pretending that she hadn't asked him. How anyone could relax with that question and being around groups of vampires staring at the woman your crazy about was a big mystery to him. He put on a smiling face, a very weak smile be that. Tried not to look too loving, and responded;
"I... I..well... yes, but I didn't bring you here to make a move and I'm really sorry i brought you here forgetting that vampires would..." he felt stupid admitting it, he should've known what would happen. Must've been the anticipation to show a woman where he worked, though that didn't make a lot of sense either. Lestat looked hopeful that she started to get bored, there was no way he could see her again now having humiliated himself that way. Hopefully someone will come and talk to her, she will fall in love and go home with him. Lestat didn't need anyone, he could be completely alone and still be happy. Then he scanned the faces again, seeing the predatory look in their eyes, he wouldn't let a single one of those pale men touch her.

moments of happiness elude maybe I just misunderstood
= = = = = = = The long silence between her question and his answer made it clear that the answer was 'yes' so she was ready when he replied. She momentarily forgot about the surrounding vampires and a sympathetic smile crossed her face, a small smile, but a smile all the same. "I guess you didn't mean to. You can't help how you all feel if you're... programmed that way," she grimaced, wanting a better way to phrase this, but one wouldn't come to mind.
She glanced around, and as she met each pair of eyes, she saw them flick away from hers, their mouths still moving as they spoke to their fellows, most likely about her. Ruby's arms were now folded across her chest in what she hoped was an agressive stance, but they slid down to her stomach and she was hugging herself as though cold, butterflies in her stomach now as terror flooded her at the sheer amount of lust filled eyes gazing at her. "They won't... do anything to me, will they? " she whispered to Lestat, eyes wide and on the closest vampire, whos pale skin made him stand out in the dimly lit room. His eyes were truly terrifying. The darkest colour she'd seen. She'd certainally never seen human eyes like that. Her fear arose inside her like a snake, constricting her insides, making her breath come fast. She felt more eyes drawn to her as she tried desperately to keep her breathing slow, but maybe their senses were refined like hers were. She didn't know how it worked for vampires, maybe it was the same as fairies? This morning, she had known nothing of the supernatural beings in this town, and now she was surrounded by the 'murderers' and 'rapists' that her mother had talked about. She felt dizzy, and flung out an arm as she felt herself falling, but then everything went black and she fainted. Lestat smirked, he couldn't help it. Programmed that way, as if he were some sort of animal. Though he began to agree with that analogy even more when his eyes led him down to her chest. "Yeah, though I'd rather be programmed to stay away from women," he responded to her smoothly, observing the soft contours of her face. Lestat looked around them and raise an eyebrow, "Oh, they won't touch you while I'm around, they've got the habit of avoiding me?" he whispered, watching her lips intently. "I'd be seeming to them as very selfish, keeping your company for myself." His cheeks blushed. Lestat was about to say something when he saw Ruby fall to the ground, but instead he took hold of her so carefully, there really wasn't an excuse for it but vampires from all over the bar tried to pounce on her. "BACK.THE.FUCK.OFF!!!" he roared. "Whos to say I wasn't gonna share her huh?? It's a nice piece of meat. I wouldn't want it to spend the rest of its days in some forest somewhere. I'll put her to good use," Lestat lied as he finished hooking her clothes over her showing skin.
"You owe me" he whispered to the unconscious Ruby as he left the club. Rolling his eyes at the weight in his arms he wondered where he would leave her. "All this only for a little extra company! Really, as incredible as it may sound, i wouldn't be suprised if this was your true intention of the night, have a little fun with the vampire by straining his arms.." He raised her up on his knee under the light and tapped on the switch of his home. He laid her down on his couch and smiled tenderly, tucking his arm under her neck stroking it gently. He walked on tiptoes into his room to bring her a blanket, when he came back he stared at her for a long moment. "How could this be a spell?" he whispered closely to her lips, almost grazing them with hers. "Perhaps I was meant to be with you all this time." he caressed her hands. He took her hands off her at last, and let her sleep. He took a peek out the window, the street was empty, and much to his relief, there were just the usual sounds of a normal night; insects, crickets, and a few toads croaking under nearby bushes and plants.

= = = = = = = She knew immediately that she was no longer in the bar. The silence was deafening. Her eyes flickered open and it took only a second for them to adjust to the darkness. She blinked twice, winced from the new pain in her head and sat up. Shocked, she pushed the blanked off her, wondering where she was. She looked around, instantly feeling lost. She swung her legs off the sofa where she lay and her eyes fell on a silhouette at the window. This was it. She'd been wrong to trust him. He wasn't protecting her from the others for her sake, but for his own. Her lips parted as she slowed her breathing and calmed herself down. Wouldn't want to faint again. That would be even more embarrasing.
"L... Lestat? " she said quietly. She stood up, a little shakily. The blanket fell to the floor and she looked to her right at the door. So he really was about to eat her? At least she knew her exits, though she had no idea where she was, or why he had brought her here. " Where... Where are we?" she guessed it was his house, but there was no way to be sure of that. Maybe he was just like her, sleeping in wherever she could get a bed for the night. Well right now she had a room at the local hostel waiting for her, and she was anxious to get away. These vampires... She didn't know what she was getting into, and that could be anything... One of the 'perks' of living on the ground floor was that it was definately less intimidating, it was nothing more than a bungalow. He looked at his watch, it had been fifteen minutes before Ruby awoke. He was beginning to think he'd need to take some supper into his room, if he found anytime to eat. He didn't want to take the risk of waking her, this worry sidetracked him from his meal more than anything. It made food far less than appealing.
He hoped a woman lying unconscious on his soft wasn't going to be a new habit for the past few nights. He could eat out most nights, if he did that now Ruby would be terrified upon waking. He didn't want her to spend a lot of time petrified trying to find him. He ordered in some chinese food and was busy focusing all his attentions upon it when he saw a shadow fall across his meal, then he heard Ruby's voice. He sighed and put down the spoon, convinced she was in a state of serious shock.
"My place, the door is right there if you want to run but I brought you here because I didn't know where else to take you. Not everyday a young woman faints in front of me, if i wanted to hurt you i would've left you in that pit of famished bloodhounds" he said cautiously indicating the door.

= = = = = = = Ruby swallowed as he spoke. "So, they would have eaten me then? Not become... Infatuated?" she raised an eyebrow and shuffled her feet where she stood. She couldn't help but be fascinated by this man. He was a vampire, and had just saved her from that 'pit' rather than done as he wished with her while she was unconscious? She had expected rape at the least, and had a sudden vision of herself lying unconscious on the floor surrounded by a bunch of giggling vampires, one with a marker pen, and a thick black moustache drawn on her face.
She laughed out loud and grinned, mood suddenly lightened. "Thanks, anyway." Her grin faded to a small smile as she looked at him. She looked away, and around the room more nervously, swinging her arms absentmindedly. It was dark, but now that her eyes adjusted, every detail was just as clear to her as it would be in the day. She looked at her watch. It was barely past 10pm, but it was still a lot of time to have passed since she lay alone in the forest. She longed to be back there, and she knew that if she left now, sprinted right out the door, she could be there within ten minutes without even breaking a sweat, but her fascination kept her feet where they were.
